I have been told that horses can hear a human heartbeat from 4 feet away. Every horse I make takes me down the memories of so many physical exams of their muscles, tendons and ligaments, looking for swellings or soreness. Every muscle and eye is a memory for me.
I graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985 and practiced in Texas and Pennsylvania. I currently reside in Burnet, Texas with my husband of 37 years. I have one daughter, a son in-law and two grandchildren. For the past 40 years, I have practiced on all types of animals from the smallest birds and rats to horses, cows, dogs and cats. My time as a veterinarian took me all over the US , Europe along with work in Nicaragua, Ecuador and Turks and Caicos. I felt humbled having these animals as my patients and always strived to do what was best for them. During Covid, I found myself with some free time and took up clay. I immediately started making horses and have not stopped! The majority of my work is done using a stoneware paper clay. I mix my own raku glazes. My larger sculptures are supported by a hand welded rebar armature and mounted to a solid wood base. Recent work has been accepted in juried shows: San Angelo National Ceramic Show 2024, Georgetown Art Fest 2024, Llano Art Guild. Gallery representation: Martha Stafford Gallery, Marble Falls, Texas. Assemblage, Buda, Texas. Artisan Gallery, Fredericksburg, Texas. Mountain Man Gallery, Creede, Colorado Artists that I have learned from: Marian Williams, Mark Epstein, Randy Brodnax, Tina Curry, Nancy Williams, Kathy Meador and many more. |
